Project Leia

Project LEIA is Malaysia’s first SAR drone. Designed and built by Dronology for Angkatan Pertahanan Awam (Civil Defense Malaysia). carefully designed to cater various functionality of an SAR mission. Besides equipped with all types of camera, Leia uniqueness lies in its modular payload design which capable of transporting SAR critical rescue items such as first aid kid, life jackets, buoy and others. Another standard feature is a high intensity light for rescue assist during night operation.

Driven by six carbon-fibre propellers and measuring 1.2m across, it can lift a payload almost its own 6.5kg weight and has a maximum flight time of 50 minutes powered by a 20,000mAh battery. Underneath it, a 10,000-lumen spotlight can train a beam on subjects.

The drone will be especially advantageous for search and rescue effort that is offshore or at hilly terrain. It will provide situational awareness over a large area quickly, reducing the time and the number of searchers required to locate and rescue an injured or lost person, therefore greatly reducing the cost and risks of rescue missions.
